HAVAN’s annual CONNECT Municipal Dinner is a premier event that brings together elected municipal officials and the Metro Vancouver homebuilding industry for an evening of networking, conversation, and collaboration. The speaker is one of the region’s influential elected leaders and on November 6, 2024, HAVAN is pleased to announce Richard Stewart, Mayor of the City of Coquitlam, as the guest speaker. 

Presented by BC Housing with patron sponsor FortisBC, the CONNECT Municipal Dinner is hosted by HAVAN’s Government Relations Committee. This is a sell-out event as members have a unique opportunity to connect with Mayors, Councillors and other VIPs from across the region. The business program offers attendees insight into the keynote speaker's municipality’s current efforts and future goals, as well as their perspective on housing growth in their respective jurisdiction, and region as a whole.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Richard Stewart is serving his fifth term as Mayor of Coquitlam; he was elected to City Council in 2005, and was elected as Mayor in 2008, winning re-election in 2011, 2014, 2018 and 2022.

Mayor Stewart has led Coquitlam in a time of unprecedented growth, working within the framework of the Provincial Government's new housing legislation, and has been outspoken regarding the challenges that his City has faced with its implementation.

Mayor Stewart has also served as Chair of the National Housing Economic Research Council in Ottawa, as President of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of BC, and as a member of the National Research Council’s IRC Housing committee in Ottawa, the body that writes the National Building Code of Canada. Richard also worked as a consultant for the provincial government in establishing the Homeowner Protection Office, and in developing the consumer protection regulations associated with builder licensing and home warranty.

As a long-time participant in and supporter of our industry, Mayor Stewart brings a unique perspective on the changes and trends in construction over the past decades.

This event will have a plated dinner served with 3 courses:

Appetizer: Fresh Tomatoes and Bocconcini Cheese Garnished with Basil and Sun-Dried Tomatoes (Contains Dairy)

ENTREE - Choice of:

  • Peppercorn New York Steak, Cooked to Medium Rare,
  • Baked Chicken Breast Stuffed with Ham and Cheese, Served With Roasted Potatoes and Grilled Vegetables, or
  • Chef Mario’s Vegan Paella: Rice, peas, chickpeas, and seasonal vegetables with spices.

Dessert: Tiramisu with Mascarpone Cheese, Espresso, and Biscotti with Kahlua and Chocolate Shavings
