LEEP Air-Source Heat Pumps

June 10, 2024 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM (PDT)

Description

The annual CHBA Net Zero Summit is coming to Vancouver on June 11 and 12, and prior to the Summit on Monday, June 10 is a full-day LEEP (Local Energy Efficiency Partnerships) seminar that will focus on Air-Source Heat Pumps (ASHP).

Topics include:

- Overview of what LEEP offers the building industry. Where is the market moving? Intro to best practices for builders across the country for mechanical design considerations.
- Panel on builder challenges related to heat pumps and mechanicals. This panel session will solicit feedback from builders on barriers to higher performance mechanical systems design. Topics will include accurate heating & cooling loads, ductwork design decisions, heat pumps vs. traditional heating systems, and coordination & collaboration with trades.
- NRCan's ASHP sizing and selection tool. Learn easier ways to work with trades, designers, and homeowners – to facilitate discussions and identify solutions that meet the builders needs. In-depth, hands-on preview of NRCan's new tool
- the Master Planning & Decision app and the ASHP Sizing & Selection Tool.
- Ductwork best practices and solutions. Ductwork & distribution systems haven't kept up with changes to housing design. Learn and apply best practices and how you can make incremental changes to improve overall performance of mechanical systems.
- Sizing heat pump systems, matching loads with heat pump selection, and determining loads with optimization. Housing is changing. Builders need to have the tools and knowledge to be empowered to effectively collaborate with HVAC contractors and designers to select systems that optimize heating and cooling needs. Learn about changes to the CSA-F280-12 standard and how to ensure that your contractors are using F280-compliant software. Gain access to a new tool to visualize your heat pump options using your home's heating and cooling loads. Builders will review new dashboards and tools to evaluate envelope options, based on targeted heating and cooling loads. - Best practices in heat pump system controls & operation. Builders invest up front in high performance mechanical equipment. But how will the system perform for your homebuyer? Learn about control strategies to optimize performance, comfort, and utility costs by adjusting set points, switchover temperatures and other parameters for a hybrid heating set up.
- Panel and facilitated activity for hybrid heat pump controls. This panel session will solicit builder feedback on common issues with installing and configuring controls settings, barriers and challenges working with trades to optimize performance, and data driven comparisons of different control approaches using NRCan's ASHP Sizing & Selection app.

This is a session you don't want to miss, and bring your team!  Learn, share and connect with builders from Metro Vancouver and across Canada.
